Ernst Van Dyk Double World Handcycling Champion - 8/26/2007
Team Invacare representative Ernst Van Dyk of South Africa, has ridden his Top End Force Handcycle to a rare double victory at the 2007 UCI Paracycling World Championships in Bordeaux, France. Averaging almost 40km per hour over the hilly circuit, Van Dyk took out the 10km time trial by almost 30 seconds from the U.S.A’s Alehandro Albour. Van Dyk doubled for victory in the 50km road race two days later in an exciting sprint finish, winning by less than a wheel length over German Norbert Koch in a time of 1 hour 27 minutes 23 seconds. It’s the first time in nearly a decade that one athlete has successfully won the time trial, road race double, with Team Invacare’s Scott McNeice the last to accomplish the feat in 1998. |
