Cedartown 5K Results - 7/2/2008

Kurt Fearnley (Team Invacare) made it two from two in in the United States by winning the Cedartown 5km road race in Georgia.

Fearnley won in a time of 9 minutes 45 seconds, finishing a wheelchair length ahead of a pack of athletes including Switzerland's Marcel Hug, Mexican Aaron Gordian(Team Invacare) and South African Ernst van Dyk(Team Invacare).

The win - Fearnley's second at Cedartown -  follows his victory in the Long Island 10km in New York on Sunday. Fearnley was surprised at the time after a tight, tactical contest.

"I can't believe we were only four seconds outside the course record. The race was really tight and the lead changed plenty of times. Things are really close. I think the records will tumble in China (at the Beijing Paralympic Games)" Fearnley said.

The depth of the field was illustrated by the top five finishers, only one was in the top five on Sunday at Long Island. Fearnley.

"We've got guys here from all over the world, pushing great times and it's so even. There's 10 - 20 blokes who could win on any given day, so It's definitely a psychological advantage to get up twice in three days" he said.

Fearnley hopes to make it three from three on Friday when he defends his Peachtree 10km title in Atlanta.
