Ammerlaan wins at Atlanta Masters - 9/16/2007
Robin Ammerlaan of Team Invacare has beaten world number 3 Stephane Houdet in the final of the Atlanta Masters Series in Georgia, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour. The Dutch world number 2 took the final 7-5, 6-3 to win his first Atlanta title and his 7th tournament of 2007. After the disappointment of losing the 2006 final in a tight contest with Japan’s Shingo Kunieda, Amerlaan played near flawless tennis in his straight sets win. His form is building well leading into the season ending NEC Singles Masters where he will complete in front of a parochial home crowd in Amsterdam, a happy hunting ground that has seen him victorious in 5 of the last 6 Amsterdam Opens. Amerlaan is hoping to carry over his form into 2008, where he will attempt to win a 3 straight Paralympic Gold Medal at the Beijing Games. |
